Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Details
The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) is a flagship crop insurance scheme introduced by the Government of India to provide financial security to farmers against crop damage and production risks.
Indian agriculture is highly dependent on monsoon and natural conditions. Farmers often face heavy losses due to droughts, floods, hailstorms, pests, diseases, and other natural calamities. PMFBY was launched to reduce this risk by offering affordable crop insurance coverage to farmers across the country.
The scheme provides protection at every stage of the crop cycle — from sowing to harvesting and even post-harvest losses in certain cases. It ensures that farmers receive timely compensation so they can continue farming without falling into debt.
