Uttam Pashu Puraskar Yojana – Himachal Pradesh

Launched By: Government of Himachal Pradesh
Announced By: Government of Himachal Pradesh
Purpose: Encouraging high milk production

Uttam Pashu Puraskar Yojana Details

The Uttam Pashu Puraskar Yojana is a performance-based incentive scheme introduced by the Himachal Pradesh Government to recognize and reward livestock owners who maintain high milk-yielding cows and buffaloes.

Dairy farming plays a crucial role in the rural economy of Himachal Pradesh. Many small and marginal farmers depend on milk production as a regular source of income. To motivate farmers to improve animal health, nutrition, and breeding practices, the state government introduced this scheme.

Under this program, livestock owners whose cows or buffaloes produce 15 liters or more milk per day are identified and rewarded with a cash prize. The milk yield is measured scientifically and transparently at government veterinary institutions to ensure fairness.

The scheme not only increases milk production but also supports genetic improvement of livestock, as male calves born from high-yielding animals can be selected for breeding programs at sperm stations.
