Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana Details
The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) – Per Drop More Crop is a flagship agriculture scheme of the Government of India aimed at ensuring efficient use of water in farming.
Water scarcity and uneven rainfall have become major challenges for Indian agriculture. To address this issue, the government introduced this scheme to promote micro-irrigation systems such as drip and sprinkler irrigation at the farm level.
The scheme focuses on delivering water directly to plant roots in the right quantity and at the right time. This helps farmers reduce water wastage, increase crop productivity, and improve overall farm income. Along with irrigation systems, the scheme also supports water harvesting, water storage, and water management activities.
Objectives of the Scheme
Expand the use of micro-irrigation technologies across India
Improve efficient utilization of water at the farm level
Increase crop productivity and farmer income
Promote precision irrigation and fertigation methods
Encourage irrigation in water-scarce and drought-prone areas
Reduce dependence on traditional flood irrigation methods
Integrate irrigation systems with renewable energy where possible
Generate employment in installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
Key Features of the Scheme
Focuses on “more crop per drop of water” concept
Encourages adoption of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems
