Job Description

Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, one of the prestigious Institutes of National Importance in India, invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for the post of Project Associate I under an ongoing sponsored research project.

About the Research Project

The position is offered under the project titled:

“Capacity Building for Human Resource Development in Unmanned Aircraft System (Drone and Related Technology)”

This project is funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

The main objective of this project is to:

• Develop skilled human resources in drone and unmanned aircraft systems

• Promote research and innovation in aerospace, automation, and robotics

• Strengthen India’s technological ecosystem in emerging drone technologies

• Provide industry-oriented practical exposure to engineers and researchers

The project focuses on design, analysis, simulation, and development of drone-related mechanical and structural systems, which makes this role technically important and career-oriented.

Project Supervision

• Principal Investigator: Dr. Amit Shukla

• Department: Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR)

• Institute: IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh

The selected candidate will work directly with the research team and faculty members, gaining experience in:

• Engineering design and modelling

• Structural analysis

• Simulation-based development

• Research documentation and technical reporting

Nature of Appointment

• The post is temporary in nature

• Appointment will be valid till the end of the project duration

• Initial appointment may be for a few months or one year

• Extension depends on:

  • Performance of the candidate

  • Project requirements

  • Availability of funds

This position does not guarantee permanent employment, but it adds strong academic and research value to the candidate’s profile.

Salary Details

• Consolidated salary: ₹20,000 per month

• Additional HRA (House Rent Allowance) will be paid as applicable

• Salary will be fixed as per IIT Mandi and Government of India norms

In case a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, salary will be decided as per prevailing GoI rules.

Educational Qualification

Essential Qualification:

• B.Tech in Automobile Engineering

• OR equivalent engineering discipline

Desirable Qualification (Highly Preferred):

• Minimum 5 years of experience in:

  • AutoCAD

  • SolidWorks

  • ANSYS

  • Mechanical / product / structural design tools

Candidates with strong design background will be given preference during shortlisting.

Reservation & Relaxation Rules

• Relaxation in marks may be provided to:

  • SC

  • ST

  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)

  • PwD candidates

All relaxations will be applicable strictly as per Government of India norms.
